LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV baseball senior outfielder Rance Roundy was named the Mountain West Conference Player of the Week for the week ending March 6th, announced the conference office.
Roundy went 12-for-18, batting .667 during the Rebels' 4-1 road trip at Texas Tech and Nevada, Reno. The Henderson, Nev. native was nearly perfect in UNLV's three-game sweep over UNR in Reno, going 10-for-11 with four doubles, a home run and nine RBI.
His stellar performance at the plate led the Rebel offense to its first series sweep in Reno since 1986 and just the third overall in series history. This week's honor marks the second time in three weeks that Roundy has earned the MWC weekly honor and is his third overall this year as he was named College Baseball Insider's West Region Player of the Week following opening weekend.
Roundy and the Rebels will pick up action this weekend with a four-game set against Valparaiso University. Friday night's game is slated for a 6:05 p.m. start time at Wilson Stadium.
