Final Stats

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV baseball team dropped its second straight game, falling 9-3 to Cal State Northridge here tonight at Wilson Stadium in its first game at home in nearly two weeks.

Buddy Borden (0-1) suffered his first loss of the season after giving up six runs on eight hits in 2.1 innings of work. Rance Roundy, Ryan Scott and Scott Berke each collected two hits and an RBI on the night to lead the UNLV offense.

The Matadors (15-14) jumped out to a 1-0 lead after the top of the first after Ridge Carpenter led the game off with a triple and scored one batter later on Justin De Marco's RBI single to left.

UNLV (19-11) answered in the bottom of the first when Roundy singled in Trevor Kirk who had doubled to lead off the inning. CSUN regained the lead in the top of the second Nate Ring singled and stole second and third before scoring on Kyless Attl's groundout to short.

The Rebels offense once again rose to the challenge in the bottom of the second when Berke stepped up and belted a solo homer to left field.

The Matadors offense heated up during the third and fourth innings, platting seven runs on eight hits to take a commanding 9-2 lead. Attl cleared the bases following three straight singles with a double to center field in the third while Adam Berry's two-RBI double an inning later capped the scoring and forced the Rebels to turn to the pen for the third time on the night.

UNLV cut the lead to 9-3 in the sixth when Trent Cook scored on Scott's RBI single to left, but that would be as close as the Rebels would get as they managed just three hits over the final three innings.

Jesse Garcia, Brandon Rainford, Zack Hartman and Brady Zuniga combined to throw six innings of shutout baseball, allowing just three hits in that span, but the damage was already done.

UNLV will remain home this coming weekend as they welcome Sacred Heart for a four-game series. Friday's first pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m. at Wilson Stadium.
