COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV baseball team clinched another Mountain West Conference series win with a 14-9 victory over Air Force on a cold and rainy Sunday at Falcon Field.
Nine different Rebels recorded at least one hit while Richie Jimenez posted a game high with four and Scott Dysinger and Travis Feiner each added three. Buddy Borden picked up his first win after throwing 2.2 innings in relief while Jesse Garcia earned the save after throwing the final four innings, not allowing a hit while striking out three.
UNLV (32-20, 9-11 Mountain West) came out hot, scoring two in the first and three more in the second to take an early 5-1 lead. RBI base hits by Feiner and Rance Roundy led to two runs in the first while Dysinger's two-run triple to left center highlighted the Rebel second.
Air Force (18-33, 3-17 Mountain West) battled back to take the lead in the bottom of the third, platting six runs on six hits and taking advantage of two UNLV errors in the field. Nathan Cater's three-run homer made it a 5-4 game before Jon McMahon scored on a error and Vai Schierholtz drove in a run on an base-hit bunt.
The Rebels would answer back with six runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth to regain the lead at 13-9. Feiner's sixth home run of the season and third in the last six games was followed by a two-run double to right by Remington Pullin in the fourth.
Casey Sato added an RBI double to right center and Feiner a RBI single to center, marking his third hit of the day to cap the UNLV fifth.
UNLV added one more in the ninth to make it a 14-9 ballgame on Sato's second RBI double of the afternoon. Garcia was unhittable in his four innings of relief, allowing just one base runner on an eighth-inning walk.
The Rebels will be back in action this coming week with four games at home to close out the regular season. UNLV will host UC Riverside on Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. at Wilson Stadium.
