Rebels Sweep MWC Weekly Honors

May 16, 2011

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV baseball players Tanner Peters and Travis Feiner were honored as the Mountain West Conference Pitcher and Player of the Week, respectively, for the period ending May 15, announced the conference office Monday.

Feiner continued his stellar play as of late batting .500 for the weekend, going 6-for-12 from the plate with at least one hit in each of the three games over the weekend. He carried a .750 slugging percentage and a .600 on-base percentage, leading the Rebel offense that racked up 40 hits and 23 runs over the three-game series.

He was 2-for-3 with a walk in game one and added another hit and drew two walks while scoring once in game two. The Las Vegas native saved his best for the final game of the series going 3-for-6 with a career-high five RBI, powering the Rebels to a 14-9 win in Sunday's slugfest. With two men on and the Rebels down 7-5 in the top of the fourth, Feiner drove a 1-2 pitch over the wall in left center, marking his third home run in the last six games and his sixth overall this season, propelling the Rebels to a six-run inning that gave them an 11-7 lead they would not relinquish. On top of his offensive production, Feiner's work in the field was equally as productive, registering five putouts and 12 assists over the course of the rain-filled weekend.

Peters improved to 9-3 on the season with another top-notch performance for UNLV. The junior righty hurled his third straight complete game, moving him into a tie for the national lead with seven on the season. The complete game also tied him for the all-time Mountain West Conference single season and career marks.

He scattered nine hits over the game, walking just one while striking out five in the effort, needing just 104 pitches to complete the game. Peters entered the game ranked eighth in the nation in ERA and lowered it to 1.29 after surrendering just one run. He surpassed 100 innings pitched on the season, now standing at 105.0, putting him second in the nation behind UCLA's Trevor Bauer.

The honor is the second for Feiner and fourth for Peters. The duo joins pitcher Joe Robinson and outfielders Rance Roundy and Brandon Bayardi as Rebels to earn weekly accolades from the Mountain West Conference this season.

The Rebels will be back in action this week, hosting UC Riverside Tuesday at 6:05 p.m. PT before opening up their final MWC series against San Diego State at home on Thursday, May 19.
