The UNLV Rebels will send 10 student-athletes to Eugene, Ore., for the 2011 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Preliminary Championship Competition scheduled for May 26-28. UNLV will participate in the West region hosted by Oregon and held at Hayward Field.
Emily Blok will participate in three events during the three-day affair in the Pacific Northwest. Blok will run individually in the 100m and 200m races before joining Zadia Bryant, Davina Collins and Secoral Yanez in the 4x100m relay. Blok finished second in both the 100m and 200m races last week at the Mountain West Conference's Outdoor Track and Field Championships before helping the relay squad to a first-place finish.
UNLV's Amanda Bingson, Chelsea Cassulo and Danielle Rios qualified for the hammer throw. Bingson and Cassulo, who finished 1-2 at the MWC Championships, are seeded second and fourth, respectively. Bingson, a two-time MWC champion, owns the second-best throw by a collegian this season with a toss of 228-11 (69.79m). Cassulo earned second at the league meet last week with a throw of 210-9 (64.24m).
Deja Edwards and Kelsey Williamson will represent UNLV in the long jump and 800m run, respectively.
The qualifiers from the West and East Regions (Indiana: Bloomington, Ind.) will compete in the NCAA Championships held June 8-11 in Des Moines, Iowa.
