LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV baseball junior righty Joe Robinson was named the Mountain West Conference Pitcher of the Week for the week ending May 1st, announced the conference office on Monday.
Robinson notched UNLV's first one hitter in two seasons, shutting down the New Mexico offense and helping clinch the series win with a 4-1 win in game two over the Lobos. A single in the third inning was the only blemish on the day.
Robinson threw a season-high 108 pitches in his second complete-game effort of the season. The game also marked the second time this season that Robinson and teammate Tanner Peters have thrown back-to-back complete game wins for the Rebels.
The honor is the first for Robinson, who is 5-4 on the season in 11 starts and ranks second on the team in innings pitched with 69.1. Robinson joins Peters and outfielders Rance Roundy and Brandon Bayardi as Rebels to earn weekly accolades from the Mountain West Conference this season.
The Rebels will be back in action this week, traveling to Pullman, Wash. to take on Pac-10 foe Washington State in a three game series starting Friday night.
