Bingson, Cassulo Throw To Nationals

EUGENE, Ore. (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV's Amanda Bingson and Chelsea Cassulo finished first and third, respectively, in the hammer throw Friday at the 2011 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field West Preliminary Championship Competition at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. Emily Blok ran in two events today and moved on in the 200m dash, but came up short in the 100m quarters.

Bingson's toss of 222-10 (67.92m) was the top distance recorded in both the east and west preliminary regionals. Cassulo finished third in the regional with a throw of 207-5 (63.24m), which was the fifth-best overall. Danielle Rios also participated in the hammer and finished 28th in the prelims with a recorded distance of 179-0 (54.56m).

Blok finished 20th overall in the 200m in 24.07 to advance to Saturday's quarters, but fell short of moving on in the nationals in the 100m when she finished the race 18th overall with a time of 11.83.

Blok will partner up with Zadia Bryant, Davina Collins and Secoral Yanez in the 4x100m relay Saturday at 1:00 pm.
