Day 3 Results
EUGENE, Ore. (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV's 4x100m relay squad needed to finish 12th or better to advance to the NCAA Track and Field Championships (June 8-11) in Des Moines, Iowa, but fell short with a 14th place showing at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. The quartet of Zadia Bryant, Davina Collins, Secoral Yanez and Emily Blok finished the race with a time of 45.47.
Blok, who ran in the 100m quarterfinals Friday, participated in the 200m quarters Saturday, as well, and finished 23rd with a final time of 24.29.
"We had some great things happen in the hammer throw," said head coach Yvonne Scott. "Unfortunately, we fell short in the other events. Despite this, I am very proud of the team and how they competed in these conditions. Many of them improved from their incoming rankings and hopefully will make them hungrier for next season. In the meantime, Amanda (Bingson) and Chelsea (Cassulo) will represent us at the finals in Des Moines and should do great things for our program."
Bingson and Cassulo finished first and third, respectively, in the hammer Friday and will throw for a national championship on June 10 at Drake Stadium on the campus of Drake University. Bingson threw 222-10 (67.92m), the best distance recorded in both NCAA Preliminary regionals, to Cassulo's 207-5 (63.24m).
