LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV baseball senior third baseman Travis Feiner was named co- Mountain West Conference Player of the Week for the week ending May 8th, announced the conference office on Monday.
Feiner was 4-for-9 (.444) with four RBI, three runs scored, two home runs and carried a 1.111 slugging percentage, leading the Rebels to a series win at Pac-10 foe Washington State University over the weekend.
His first home run of the weekend was a two-run monster shot over, easily clearing the wall in right-center field and brought the Rebels to within a run at 4-3 in the eighth inning Saturday night. With the score knotted at 3-3 in Sunday's series finale, Feiner sent a solo shot against the wind to left field that gave UNLV a 4-3 lead they would not relinquish.
The honor is the first for Feiner, who is batting .281 on the year and ranks third on the team in home runs with five. Feiner joins pitchers Joe Robinson and Tanner Peters and outfielders Rance Roundy and Brandon Bayardi as Rebels to earn weekly accolades from the Mountain West Conference this season.
The Rebels will be back in action this week, traveling to Colorado Springs, Colo. to take on Mountain West Conference Air Force in a three game series starting Friday afternoon.
