LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's swimming team closed out its regular season schedule with a 147-91 Senior Day victory over Air Force on Saturday afternoon at Buchanan Natatorium. Also in action, Mariah Skeen of the women's team placed fourth on the 3-meter board at the Falcon Diving Invite with a score of 282.95.
Six different Rebels won individual events, led by Steven Nelms' double-win performance in the 50 and 100 free in times of 20.38 and 45.90, respectively. Other wins came from Joseph Riggert in the 1000 free (9:30.37), Cody Roberts in the 100 back (50.83), David Szele in the 100 breast (55.90), Balint Batka in the 200 fly (1:49.34), and Giacomo Gremizzi in the 400 IM (4:02.86). Andrew Morrell won two individual events to pace the men's efforts. He claimed both breast events, swimming times of 57.11 in the 100 and 2:04.75 the 200. Other winners included Balint Batka in the 200 fly (1:49.64), Coleman Allen in the 100 fly (50.07) and Giacomo Gremizzi in the 200 IM (1:53.59).
The Rebels claimed wins in both relays as well. The quartet of Charlie Tapp, Morrell, Roberts and Nelms won the 200 medley relay in 1:30.09, while Nelms, Roberts, Tapp and Morrell posted a winning time of 1:23.73 in the 200 free relay.
The next action for the Rebels will be the women's Senior Day meet, against Loyola Marymount on Saturday, Feb. 4 at 12 pm in Buchanan. The Rebel men will next swim in the 2012 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships, held in Long Beach, Calif., on Feb. 15-18.
