LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's and women's swimming and diving team saw an impressive 16 different swimmers win 19 of 26 individual events to help the Rebels swept a dual meet over BYU on Saturday afternoon. The Rebel men (2-1) posted a 156.5-143.5 victory, while UNLV's women (1-3) won by a 161-139 score.
Two double-event winners paced UNLV on the men's side. David Szele claimed both breasts events, winning the 100 in 56.04 and the 200 in 2:04.07. Giacomo Gremizzi meanwhile touched the wall first in the 200 free (1:40.23), and won the 200 IM in 1:50.86. Single event winners on the afternoon included: Matt Roe in the 1000 free (9:31.47), Henrique Machado in the 100 back (49.22), Balint Batka in the 200 fly (1:49.16), Samuel Lameynardie in the 100 free (46.64), Joe Riggert in the 500 free (4:36.42) and Cody Roberts in the 100 fly (49.01).
The Rebels won the 200 medley relay, with the team of Machado, Szele, Roberts and Tom Paco-Pedroni posting a time of 1:29.79. UNLV would tie for first in the 400 free relay, with Machado, Dillon Virva, Paco-Oedroni and Lameynardie turning in a time of 3:03.25.
UNLV had one double-winner on the women's side, with Jessica Heim winning both distance free events. She won the 500 free in 5:00.75 and the 1000 free in 10:24.49. The Rebels used a 1-2-3 sweep in the 50 free to help open their big margin over BYU, led by Hilary Ego's winning time of 23.57. She was followed by Rachel Dixon and Julia Fehervari. Dixon would win the 100 free in 52.18, with Fehervari in third and Ego fourth.
Other winners included Jessica Marsh in the 200 free (1:53.70), Carmen Robb in the 100 back (56.32), Mariah Skeen on the 1-meter board (284.18), Katelyne Herrington in the 100 fly (55.85) and Brittany Ozar in the 200 IM (2:08.01). Robb, Nakayla Chan, Herrington and Dixon teamed up to win the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:44.65, while Fehervari, Robb, Heim and Dixon won the 400 free relay in 3:28.48.
The Rebels return to action on Saturday, Nov. 10 at 2 pm, when they host Utah and the University of Calgary in Buchanan Natatorium.
