Air Force Falcons Postgame Quotes

Head Coach Troy Calhoun:

"I thought we got outplayed in the second half to put it mildly. That's a credit to UNLV. I thought at the line of scrimmage, they moved us around on both sides of the ball. I think just being able to run the ball straight down hill, running a couple pretty sound runs, they were pretty effective doing it. A couple of key points: I thought the fumble where they turned around a few plays after that and was able to convert that into a touchdown was a big play. It was that segment right in there was a really big part of it. And just us, our inability to sustain any drive in the second half. You know, to score 28 points in the first half and the first 24 minutes of the second half, not put anything together. It's a credit to their (UNLV) guys, I thought they played really, really well.

On substitution line changes:

"We did try to play some guys, who thought we needed to, playing against big bodies. We thought it would help us in the second half, but it did not. In the second half they were the better football team, clearly."

On inability to tackle UNLV running back Bradley Randle:

"He's (Randle) a good back. I thought coming into the game that Randle and (Tim) Cornett were good backs. I thought they proved that to be the case again tonight, too. There were some time where we lost contain and who our force player was. We had some guys diving inside, and we're one of those teams that have to play pretty darn flawless and tonight, we did not."

On next week vs. Colorado State:

"We got a significant amount of work to do. I thought there were times tonight that we played like an inexperienced football team. That cannot be us. We've got to play like older, veteran guys. We had a couple seniors that made some pretty significant mistakes that we can't have and guys that gotta play like they've been here awhile. That's what we've got to do."

On UNLV's second-half rushing adjustments:

"I thought they did a better job of controlling the line of scrimmage. Up front I thought there were points in the game where I thought we really, really got pushed around and got manhandled a little bit."

On possibly challenging his defenders for the future:

"Physically, I got pushed around a little bit. That was the game plan. I think we knew that was going to happen coming in; that they'd try to line up with big bodies and lean on us. I thought they did more than lean. I thought that they blocked well. For us, I thought there were far too many times where plays, even when you made a tackle, you were on the receiving end of the tackle and it's two or three more yards, which adds up to be able to convert third downs."
