LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - For the second straight day UNLV had the fastest time in all 11 swimming events against Air Force, this time resulting in a 126-116 victory against the Falcons in a men's college swimming dual meet on Saturday morning from Buchanan Natatorium. With the win, UNLV has now won seven straight meets to stand at 7-1 on the season, while Air Force dropped to 10-7.
The morning began with Henrique Machado, Giacomo Gremizzi, Cody Roberts and Kyle Virva claiming first in the 400 medley relay after touching the wall in a time of 3:19.99. Matt Roe followed that up with a win in the 1000 free, thanks to a time of 9:33.20.
Freshman Tom Paco-Pedroni won the next race for UNLV, posting a first place time of 1:42.21 in the 200 free. Another freshman, Dillon Virva, led a 1-3-4-5 finish in the 50 free, winning with a time of 20.99. Gremizzi then won his first individual race of the day, the 200 IM by over six seconds with a time of 1:51.17.
Balint Batka and Roberts went 1-2 in the 200 fly, with Batka posting a time of 1:47.46. Roe then won his fourth distance free win of the weekend, a time of 4:39.54 in the 500 free. The final win of the day was in the 200 breast from Gremizzi in 2:05.19.
The final event was the 400 free relay. UNLV posted the first time in the event, a 3:03.37 from Virva, Roberts, Paco-Pedroni and Batka.
Also on Saturday, six UNLV divers competed in the Air Force Diving Invitational in Colorado Springs.
Madeline Schmidt was the top finisher, placing 13th on the 3-meter board with a score of 259.60. Right behind her was Mariah Skeen in 15th (255.75), Edith Feld in 27th (231.95) and Michele Serra was 37th (195.40). On the men's side, Lucas James placed 14th (242.20) on the 1-meter, while Spenser Sullivan was 18th (223.10).
UNLV will close out its dual meet season with a Senior Day contest against Wyoming on Saturday, Feb. 3 at 12 pm in Buchanan Natatorium.
