PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV senior standout Lucia Batta got off to a quick start but then lost her opening round qualifying match Tuesday at the 2013 Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships being played at the Riviera Country Club.
Batta, ranked 41st in the nation, whitewashed 67th-ranked Kendal Woodard of Georgia Tech in the first set and was up a service break in the second before ultimately falling 0-6, 7-5, 6-1.
Batta will play one more match at the event on Wednesday as she advanced in consolation play when her opponent from TCU defaulted late in the afternoon.
Earlier in the day, Batta and teammate Aleksandra Josifoska lost their first qualifying doubles match, 8-2, at the hands of freshman duo Jamie Loeb and Hayley Carter of North Carolina.
