LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - Host UNLV saw its top two women's players win twice on Friday in singles as well as team up for a doubles victory during the third day of the 2013 USTA/ITA Mountain Region Championships being held at the Fertitta Tennis Complex on campus.

Top-seeded and 32nd-ranked Aleksandra Josifoska opened by breezing by Marcelli Magday of Air Force, 6-0, 6-2, before sweeping New Mexico's Lizette Blankers, 6-4, 6-2. Second-seeded and 41st-ranked Lucia Batta downed New Mexico State's Denise Van der Ben, 6-0, 6-1, and then swept Idaho's Vicky Lozano, 6-1, 6-1, to advance to the quarterfinals.

In doubles play, Josifoska and Batta defeated Julyette Steur and Ashley Tiefel of Colorado, 8-1, to move into the quarters.

Saturday's schedule will consist of one round of doubles and two more rounds of singles. The finals are set for Sunday. Admission to all matches is free of charge.

Members from 19 western teams are facing off as individuals through Sunday on 12 courts each day in both singles and doubles. This is one of 24 USTA/ITA Regional Championships for NCAA Division I men and women taking place over these middle two weekends of October at campuses throughout the country. The singles and doubles champions will advance to the 2013 USTA/ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships, taking place November 7-10, at the indoor facilities at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, located in Flushing, N.Y.
