LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV softball program has received signed national letters of intent from seven student-athletes - Fahren Glackin, Amanda Herrera, Merina Ili, Janine Petmecky, Brooke Stover, Jordan Swanner and Jadelyn Yadao-Valdez - who will enroll at the university in the fall of 2014 and play for the Rebels during the 2015 campaign, head coach Lisa Dodd announced Thursday.
Glackin is a utility player that has pitched and played in both the infield and outfield at Kamehameha High School in Mililani, Hawaii, the past three years. The left-hander helped the Warriors to the state tournament the past two seasons with a runner-up finish in 2013 after a fifth-place showing in 2012. She has played travel ball for Miliani Prep, who has won every tournament played in Hawaii for six straight years, since 2009.
Herrera is a third baseman that has played three years at Riverside Poly High School in Riverside, Calif. She helped the Bears to a 2013 Inland Valley championship two years after the team finished the year as CIF quarterfinalists. She has earned All-Inland Valley First Team honors the past three years (2011-13), while being named a scholar-athlete and the team's defensive MVP during her sophomore season. She plays travel ball for Corona Angels 18U.
Ili is a first baseman and catcher that has played three years at Long Beach Polytechnic High School in Long Beach, Calif. She has helped the Jackrabbits to three straight CIF Division 2 playoff appearances. She plays travel ball for Corona Angels 18U.
Petmecky has lettered two years in both softball and volleyball at Riverside Polytechnic High School in Riverside, Calif. On the softball diamond, she helped pitch the Bears to an All-Inland Valley title in 2013, while earning all-state second team and all-league first team and MVP honors. During her sophomore and junior seasons, she was tabbed a scholar-athlete and selected to the Stu Penner All-Tournament Team. She plays travel ball for Corona Angels 18U.
Stover is a three-year catcher at Palo Verde High School in Las Vegas. She helped the Panthers to a state championship in 2011 and a runner-up finish two years later in 2013. Following her junior campaign, she was named to the All-State and All-Northwest Sunset League First Teams and took home a share of the League's MVP honors. She was a second team all-conference pick in 2011 and '12. She plays travel ball for Lil Rebels 18 Gold, a team that has won four straight Nevada ASA titles.
Swanner began her high school career as a catcher, but has since transitioned to the corners of the infield during her sophomore and junior campaigns at Frisco Wakeland High School. She has helped the Wolverines to three straight District 4A-9 titles (2011-13) and two area and two regional championships (2011-12). She has earned All-District First Team honors each season and has been selected as a team captain for the upcoming 2013-14 year. She plays travel ball for Texas Elite Gold. Her older brother, Joey, is a starting outfielder and junior on the UNLV baseball team.
Yadao-Valdez has played at shortstop and third base the past three seasons at Mililani High School in Mililani, Hawaii. She helped the Trojans to an undefeated regular season in 2013 en route to a 16-3 final record and a second-place showing at the Waimea Tournament. She has been named to the all-state second team twice and earned the Oceanic Time Warner Cable OIA Softball Player Semifinal Team Player Award. She plays travel ball for Mililani Prep.
