Final Stats

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV baseball (22-11, 7-6 Mountain West) dropped the series opener 7-6 to Nevada, Reno (18-15, 6-7 MW) on Friday night at Earl E. Wilson Stadium.

The Wolf Pack opened the scoring in the second inning with two runs, while UNLV tallied one in the bottom half of the inning.

The third was mirror image of the second as UNR took a 4-2 lead heading into the fourth inning.

In the fifth, each team plated two runs and the Wolf Pack added another in the sixth to take a 7-4 lead.

UNLV attempted to rally, scoring two runs with two outs in the bottom of the ninth and had the tying run on second and the winning run on first before Joey Armstrong was retired as the Rebels' final out. He belted a shot directly to the first basemen but he was able to take it to the bag to record the unassisted out, ending the UNLV threat.

The Rebels were led by Patrick Armstrong as he finished 3-for-4 with three RBI in the game. Brandon Bayardi and Matt McCallister were the only other Rebels to record multiple hits in the game and Bayardi hit his sixth home run of the season in the second inning.

Erick Fedde (4-1) took his first loss of the season as he pitched 6.0 innings allowing seven runs, five of which were earned, on nine hits while striking out seven. Brayden Torres pitched 2.0 innings of relief, allowing two hits and no runs while striking out five. Brady Zuniga came on in the ninth and retired the Wolf Pack in order.

The Rebels and Wolf Pack will be back in action tomorrow with the first pitch scheduled for 2:05 p.m. UNLV's Buddy Borden (3-1, 2.19 ERA) is slated to face UNR's Tyler Wells (4-1, 3.33 ERA).
