TEMPE, Ariz. (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's golf team shot 1-under-par 283 during the second round of play at the ASU Thunderbird Invitational on Saturday and is in a three-way tie for fourth place, four shots off the lead. The 18-team, 100-individual tournament is being played at Karsten Golf Course (par 71, 7,013 yards).

New Mexico maintained the team lead after a 2-over 286 during the second round, but now leads the field by just two shots at 6-under 562. San Diego and Oregon State are both tied for second at 4-under, while the Rebels are tied for fourth at 2-under 566 with California and San Diego State. Arizona is seventh at 6-over.

Oregon State's Nick Chianello still has a two-shot lead, now at 10-under 132 after a second-round 3-under 68. Iowa State's Scott Fernandez is second at 8-under after shooting 6-under 65 on Saturday. California's Brandon Hagy also shot a second-round 6-under and sits in third at 7-under 135 for the tournament.

The Rebels are led by sophomore Kurt Kitayama, who is fifth at 4-under 138 after a second-round even-par 71. Senior Kevin Penneris also in the top 10 as he is tied for eighth at 2-under 140 after a second-round 2-under.

Other UNLV players: sophomore Carl Jonson is tied for 17th at even par after a second-round 1-under, freshman AJ McInerney is tied for 42nd at 4-over 146 after a second-round 2-over, and junior Nicholas Maruriis tied for 60th at 7-over 149 after a second-round 4-over.
