Ely (UNLVRebels.com) - Monday meant the first double-day of 2013 preseason camp for the UNLV football team here in Ely. The morning session featured shorts while the afternoon affair was of the full-padded variety.

The team lunched on burgers and chicken sandwiches and then capped the day with pork and potatoes.

We don't know what head coach Bobby Hauck thought of Monday's menu but he was definitely pleased with the effort at both practices.

"We had a good morning practice and then the guys came back with intensity today, which is what we asked them to do," Hauck said.

Asked about how smoothly the camp has been going so far, Hauck said that's a product of a program in its fourth year under this coaching staff.

"It should look like this when you have guys that have been here. They know what is expected of them and they come out and do it."

A KEYS RECEIVER: Monday featured two newcomers -- receiver Jerry Rice Jr. and safety Frank Crawford -- finally getting into full pads after going through their late-starting acclimation period. One late addition is still wearing shorts, however, as Kendal Keys is a new face for fans.

Keys, the younger brother of UNLV sophomore defensive back Kenny Keys, was highly recruited out of Helix High School in San Diego. The athletic, 6-3, 190-pound ball catcher turned down offers from schools such as Arizona State and San Diego State to sign with Boise State in February. Things didn't work out with the Broncos, however, and Keys decided to follow his big brother to Las Vegas.

He'll be in full pads later this week.

NEXT UP: UNLV will be back at Broadbent Park Tuesday afternoon for a lone practice. The Rebels continue to work towards Saturday's scrimmage and will continue to camp in Ely until Aug. 21.
