LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV players went 3-3 in singles and 4-0 in doubles during Friday's opening day at the annual UNLV Women's Tennis Fall Invitational at the Fertitta Tennis Complex on campus.

The event, which features seven flights of singles and four flights of doubles and runs through Sunday, includes individuals from eight schools.

In singles, 41st-ranked senior standout Lucia Batta had no problem advancing, downing Meagan Monoghan of Southern Illinois, 6-0, 6-1.

In Flight Three, freshman Santa Shumilina got by Paula Sanchez of South Alabama, 6-1, 2-6, 6-3. The host's other singles victory came in Flight Five where Anett Ferenczi-Bako downed Laura Matuskova of South Alabama, 6-4, 6-2.

In doubles, Batta teamed up with fellow-senior star Aleksandra Josifoska (who is not playing singles at this event) to fly by Monaghan and Love of SIU, 8-2. Flight Two saw Shumilina and newcomer Kamelia Dimitrova defeat Emilia Box and Sarah Maria Spruch of NAU, 8-5. Iren Kotseva and Paola Artiga downed Nayara Moraes and Flavia Nagayama of MTSU, 8-3, in Flight Three; and Alexis Garrett and Ferenczi-Bako got by Chloe Jolliff and Mia Brandt of New Mexico State, 8-5, in Flight Four.

Play begins each day at 10 a.m. and admission is free of charge.
