Oct. 1, 2014 LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV softball head coach Lisa Dodd has announced the hiring of Megan Timpf as an assistant coach to fill a vacancy on her staff. Timpf, a 2008 Beijing Olympian and member of Canada's national team, comes to Las Vegas after stints at Indiana University of Pennsylvania and Barry University in Miami, Fla. She will help with the development of the Rebel infielders and hitters.
Timpf, a native of Port Dover, Ontario, began her collegiate career at Campbell University in Buies Creek, N.C., from 2003-05 before she transferred to California University of Pennsylvania in California, Pa., from 2005-08. She served as a team captain for both squads and earned Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) All-Conference and Scholar-Athlete recognition. She earned her undergraduate degree in elementary education from Cal U. and a master's degree in sport studies from IUP.
In 2005, Timpf joined Softball Canada and helped the squad to a bronze medal at the Canada Cup and silver at the Pan American Games qualifying tournament. In all, she suited up for the Red & White in more than 20 competitions with one gold medal from the 2007 World University Games in Bangkok, Thailand; eight silver medals; six bronze medals; and eight fourth-place finishes.
This summer, Timpf and fellow Rebel assistant coach Caitlin Lever guided Canada to a silver medal at the General Tire World Cup of Softball IX, a bronze at the Canada Cup and a fourth-place showing at the ISF Women's World Championships.
In her first season at IUP (2010), she helped the Crimson Hawks to program bests in wins and winning percentage as the offense set nine records en route to an undefeated home slate and a berth in the NCAA Tournament. One year later, the team won its first PSAC title and regional championship before it made an appearance at the Women's College World Series. For their efforts, the coaches earned Mid-Atlantic Region's Coaching Staff of the Year recognition.
Besides her roles as a player and as a coach, Timpf has spent time as a consultant, speaker and camp/clinic instructor. She has been a consultant and writer for Softball Canada's Technical Manual and served as the Master of Ceremonies for the Sportscentre TSN Kraft Celebration Tour and a speaker at various high school banquets.
