2014 Tavistock Collegiate Invitational Results

ORLANDO, Fla. (UNLVRebels.com) - The No. 24 UNLV men's golf team shot a final-round 9-under-par 279 on Tuesday to move up three spots in the standings and finish tied for eighth at the Tavistock Collegiate Invitational, which was played at Lake Nona Golf and Country Club (par 72, 7,200).

Florida State used a final-round-low 13-under 275 to win the tournament's team title by two shots at 37-under. Vanderbilt finished second at 35-under, followed by Texas Tech in third at 26-under. Illinois was fourth at 23-under, while North Florida rounded out the top five at 15-under. The Rebels' 54-hole score was 7-under 857, tying with New Mexico. There were a total of 15 teams competing.

Individually, Vanderbilt's Hunter Stewart earned medalist honors by a shot over teammate Carson Jacobs. Hunter shot 6-under 66 during the final round to finish at 13-under 203, while Jacobs was 1-under on Tuesday finishing at 12-under. There was a four-way tie for third at 10-under.

UNLV freshman John Oda turned in his second top-10 individual finish of the season as his final-round 2-under 70 gave him a 54-hole total of 8-under 208 and tied for ninth. Other Rebel scores: senior Carl Jonson tied for 22nd at 3-under 213 after a final-round 4-under 68, sophomore Taylor Montgomery tied for 35th at even-par 216 after a final-round 3-under 69, senior Kurt Kitayama tied for 66th at 9-over 225 after a final-round even-par 72 and senior Nicholas Maruri tied for 71st at 14-over 230 after a final-round 7-over 79. A total of 75 individuals made up the field.

The Tavistock Collegiate was the final tournament of the fall season for UNLV. The Rebels will open the spring season in February at the Sea Best Invitational at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra, Fla.
