The UNLV men's and women's swimming and diving teams opened their 2014-15 dual meet season on Saturday afternoon with a double-dual meet along with Arizona and Utah, and would fall to both Pac-12 schools. The Rebel men kept it close with No. 20 Arizona through the mid-point of the meet, before the Wildcats pulled away for a 172-126 victory. Utah meanwhile won its meet against the UNLV men 192-102. On the women's side, No. 10 Arizona claimed a 232.5-66.5 win, while Utah's women's squad posted a 208-91 victory.
UNLV won two overall races in the men's meet, with the first win provided by Henrique Machado in the 100 back in a time of 48.94. Balint Batka was the other event winner for the Rebels, in the 200 fly in 1:48.87. He also finished second in the 200 free. Other notable swims on the day included: Tom Paco-Pedroni in the 100 free (second) and the 200 medley relay team of Machado, Daniel Bullington, Kyle Virva and Forrest Beesley that also placed second in their event.
Julia Fehervari and Jessica Wong both posted third-place swims for UNLV on the afternoon, with Fehervari swimming 23.65 in the 50 free and Wong touching the wall in 2:02.59 in the 200 back. UNLV's 200 free relay team of Elena Gavrilova, Michelle Troup and Zeined Khalfallah finished second, ahead of Utah's 'A' squad.
Next weekend will see both teams in action, with the men's squad facing Denver on Friday at 4 pm, while both teams will host BYU on Saturday, Nov. 8 at 12 pm.
