LOS ANGELES (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV men's and women's swimming teams fell in their double duals vs. USC and UC San Diego on Friday at the Uytengsu Aquatics Center.
On the men's side, the Scarlet & Gray faced losses to the Trojans, 180-82, and to the Tritons, 141-118. On the women's side, the Rebels were defeated by USC, 215-46, and UCSD, 151-111.
THE RUNDOWN – MEN:
- In a 1-2 Rebel finish of the 50 free, senior
Bryson Huey won the event with a time of 19.48, while sophomore
Lucas Diermayr followed in second place (20.48).
- Earning another event victory, Huey posted a time of 43.93 to win the 100 free.
- In a Rebel 200 free relay victory, the 'A' team of Huey, Diermayr, Perez and Potgieter combined for a time of 1:19.46.
- In the 1000 free, freshman
Logan Calhoun swam the ninth-fastest time in program history (9:16.53) to place fourth overall.
- Adding two top-5 finishes in the 200 free, sophomore
Kiril Stepanov earned a third-place finish (1:37.62), while
Ambrus Barcsak followed behind in fourth (1:38.13).
- In the 100 back, Potgieter earned a second-place finish with a time of 47.51.
- Adding more top-5 finishes in the 200 fly, redshirt junior
Colby Raffel (1:46.95) and senior
Ian Belflower (1:46.99) placed third and fourth, respectively.
- Junior
Nate Thomason placed fourth in the 200 breast with a time of 2:01.03.
THE RUNDOWN – WOMEN:
- In the 1000 free, junior
Ava Olson broke her own school record with a time of 9:50.25 to place third overall. It surpassed her previous record by 1.57 seconds.
- In the 200 medley relay, the 'A' squad of junior
Dominika Trentkiewicz, senior
Erika Carlson, sophomore
Lauren Palacios and junior Fernanda Mendez Guerra posted a fourth-place finish (1:41.65).
- Senior
Gina Miller posted a fourth-place finish in the 200 free (1:48.68), while Carlson followed closely behind in sixth (1:49.00).
- Leading the Rebels in the 100 back, junior
Dominika Trentkiewicz finished in fifth place with a time of 55.46.
- In the 50 free, Mendez Guerra sped her way to a third-place finish (23.11).
- The Scarlet & Gray added multiple other fourth-place finishes, freshman
Rachel Wigginton placed fourth in the 200 fly (1:59.95), sophomore
Grace Wharton finished fourth in the 200 back (1:58.85), Olson claimed fourth in the 500 free (4:50.81) and Mendez Guerra took fourth in the 100 fly (53.67).
UP NEXT: The Scarlet & Gray women's group will face UNR on Friday, Jan. 23, with events starting at 3 p.m. PT. The men's and women's squads will return to action together for a dual meet against Fresno Pacific on Saturday, Jan. 24.
