2014 Husky Classic Results

SEATTLE, Wash. (UNLVRebels.com) - Just one day after three individuals set personal bests in their respective disciplines at the Dempsey Indoor, the UNLV track & field team witnessed eight more top previous highs, including two that shot up the program's all-time performance list Saturday. Both Auzsane Crowe-Carter and Erin Morris finished atop the collegiate standings in the mile (4:59.85) and 60m hurdles (8.45), respectively. Crowe-Carter's time placed her fourth overall in UNLV's indoor record book for the mile, while Morris jumped up two spots to second in the 60m hurdles.

Those two performances Saturday coupled with the distance medley relay's program-best time in that event and Cortney Miller's weight throw - fifth in the indoor performance list - Friday made the University of Washington's Husky Classic one of the most successful ones to-date for UNLV.

"I'm very excited about how our women competed this weekend," said head coach Yvonne Wade. "Many of them really showed up to compete. This gives them the confidence needed as we go into the Mountain West Indoor Championships.

Besides Crowe-Carter's and Morris's success on the track, the Rebels got personal-best times from Amber Sanford in the 60m (7.85), Alva Castillo in the 400m (56.48) and Mandy Chitwood in the 800m (2:15.67).

Monay Meggs, who has been one-upping herself each time out, finished second overall in the 400m Invite with a personal-best time of 54.99.

The 4x400m relay foursome of Castillo, Meggs, Laura Anuakpado and Chitwood legged out a third-place showing in 3:47.0.

Off the track, a quartet of Rebels placed between fourth and eighth in the long jump. Krystal Wharton led the group with an 18-1 (5.51m) measurement, which was good enough for fourth place. Olvia Hudson and Sanford tied for sixth with identical distances of 18-0.25 (5.49m). Akia Armstrong was eighth in 17-10.75 (5.45m).

In the high jump, Madison Johonnot had a personal-best distance of 5-5.75 (1.67m).

The indoor squad will take a week off from competition before regrouping in Colorado Springs, Colo., for the MW's Indoor Championships that begin Feb. 27 and run through March 1.
