MALIBU, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) - The 60th-ranked but short-handed UNLV women's tennis team lost by the score of 6-1 for the second straight outing, this time at the hands of No. 25 Arizona State on Sunday in a neutral-site match at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center.
The Sun Devils improved their record to 7-2 while the Lady Rebels fell to 3-4.
ASU quickly won the first two completed doubles matches to earn a 1-0 lead.
Moving to singles, UNLV's only point came on court six where freshman Paola Artiga defeated Gussie O'Sullivan when the ASU player retired in the second set. In a battle of ranked players at the top of the lineup, No. 73 Stephanie Vlad upset No. 36 Lucia Batta 6-4, 6-1. The Sun Devils also won both matches that extended to a third-set super-tiebreaker.
Next up, UNLV will open a long homestand when it hosts Loyola Marymount on Feb. 28.
