Feb. 23, 2014

Final Stats

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (UNLVRebels.com) - No. 29 UNLV baseball (4-3) lost its third straight game on Sunday at Lindsey Nelson Stadium, falling 4-2 to Tennessee (7-0).

The Volunteers got on the board in the third inning and extended their lead to 4-0 after scoring three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.

The Rebels answered by scoring two runs in the top of the seventh inning after Erik VanMeetren and Patrick Armstrong were driven in when Edgar Montes singled to center field.

After allowing the two runs, Tennessee would give up only one more hit in the game.

VanMeetren and Montes led the Rebels from the plate, as VanMeetren finished 2-for-4 and scored a run while Montes was 2-for-3 with two RBI.

From the mound, Bryan Bonnell (1-1) allowed four runs, two of which were earned, on eight hits and struck out two in 6.0 innings of work. Andrew Astone and Cody Roper both made appearances in the seventh inning and Brayden Torres pitched the final 1.1 innings. Torres struck out three of the four batters he faced.

UNLV will return to action next week when the Rebels host Air Force for a three game series. Fans are encouraged to attend Friday night's game, which has been dubbed "Friday Night Frenzy" and the goal is to break the single game attendance mark of 2,143 which was set on March 5, 2006 when Texas came to Earl E. Wilson Stadium.

Tickets for Friday's game are half price when using the 14HALFPRICE promo code. Fans must purchase their tickets online and before noon on Friday.

Fans are also invited to listen or come by Culinary Dropout inside Hard Rock Hotel & Casino on Wednesday for the "Tim Chambers Radio Show" featuring UNLV head coach Tim Chambers and hosted by UNLV baseball play-by-play man Dug Dugless. The show is broadcast live on 920 The Game from 12:00 p.m. to 12:30 p.m. PT and fans attending the show can get select appetizers for half price.
