Rebels Perform Well At Mountain T's

2014 Mountain T's Invitational Results

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV track & field program performed well this weekend at Northern Arizona's Mountain T's Invitational that was contested at the Walkup Skydome in Flagstaff, Ariz. The Rebels were led by Erin Morris and her first-place showing in the collegiate portion of the 60m hurdles behind a personal-best tying time of 8.50. Monay Meggs ran her way to second in the 200m (24.49 PB) and fourth in the 60m (7.56 PB).

Besides Morris' finish in the 60m hurdles, the Scarlet & Gray had two others place highly in the event's final with Joniece Ervin in fifth (8.96) and Jordan Hardy in sixth (8.98).

A trio of Rebels finished in the top five of the 800m with Auzsane Crowe-Carter taking the top spot in a personal-best time of 2:10.91. Mandy Chitwood and Laura Affeld were fourth (2:15.85 PB) and fifth (2:16.69), respectively.

"We are proud of the team's effort this weekend," said head coach Yvonne Wade. "We had a lot of improvements and we are gaining momentum as we get closer to the conference championships."

In the 400, Alva Castillo ran a PB time of 57.49 to finish eighth overall.

Off the track, Amber Sanford finished second in both the long jump (19-3/5.89m) and triple jump (39-4.8/12.01m) behind personal-best distances. Joining Sanford in the top eight of the long jump were Akia Armstrong in sixth (5.58/18-3.6) and Olivia Hudson in eighth (17-8.6/5.40m). Hudson also finished fifth in the triple jump (37-3.2/11.36m PB).

Madison Johonnot and Myra Dean tied for sixth in the high jump with identical 5-4.9 (1.65m) measurements.

In the women's pentathlon, UNLV had three of its own finish within the top four of collegiate competitors and in the top eight of all participants. Taylar Mills, who finished as high as third in the shot put and within the top six of all five disciplines, was first in the college portion and fourth overall with 3,442 points. Kylee Vandenberg placed as high as second in the 800m en route to 3,269 points and a seventh-place showing. Juliet Summers-Hernandez was eighth with 2,999 points and finished as high as fifth in the long jump.

The Rebels return to action next week in the Pacific Northwest at Washington's Husky Invitational on Feb. 14-15.
