SAN JOSE, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV softball team had its game against San Jose State halted in the top of the fourth inning due to rain. The affair was stopped in the top of the fourth inning with the score knotted at 1-all and the Rebels at-bat. The contest will be resumed Sunday at 11:00 am with the third and final tilt of the series following afterwards.
The Spartans began the game with a quick tally in their half of the first inning. Michelle Cox, who reached first base with a single, came around to score off a double by her teammate Jessica Garcia.
The Rebels countered in their next at-bat with help from a pair of doubles. Tayler Van Acker led off the second stanza with a shot to the gap in right center. Two batters later, Emily Haslinger cranked a ball off Katelyn Linford to the warning track in left field to plate Van Acker with ease.
After a scoreless third, Francesca Foti was able to reach base safely and move into scoring position with the assistance of Linford. The hurler, first, hit Foti with an offering and then uncorked a wild pitch to allow her to move up 60 feet.
Unfortunately, the game was stopped with Haslinger at the plate and a 2-0 count.
Linford and UNLV's Morgan Ettinger are the pitchers of record. The former has struck out two and allowed one run off of five hits while the latter has been touched for a run off of four hits and two walks.
