Summer Squad Featuring Rebs Captures Championship

Aug. 15, 2014

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV rising junior Joey Armstrong helped the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox capture the Cape Cod Baseball League championship with a win on Friday.

Armstrong recorded a sacrifice fly as the Red Sox beat the Falmouth Commodores 10-4 in the final game of the 2014 CCBL season to secure their sixth CCBL championship and first since 2007. The California native joined the Red Sox on July 2 after recovering from an injury he sustained at the end of UNLV's season.

Rising junior Bryan Bonnell also played for the Red Sox this season. He began his summer stint in the Cape following the Rebels' trip to the NCAA Regional and then returned to Las Vegas in late June in order to rest for the upcoming season.

Armstrong, Bonnell and the rest of the team will return to UNLV and begin fall practices in September. The Rebels will play one exhibition game this fall against Utah on October 18.
