LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - Former UNLV track & field standout Amanda Bingson finished second overall in the hammer throw at the 2014 IAAF Continental Cup Sunday. Bingson, a 2012 London Olympian and current US record holder, registered a distance of 237-5 (72.38m) on her second attempt at Le Grande Stade in Marrakech, Morocco.
Bingson finished behind two-time Olympian and current world-record holder Anita Wlodarczyk of Poland, who unleashed a winning measurement of 246-9 (75.21) on her third attempt. Two weeks ago in Berlin, Wlodarczyk rewrote the record book with a 261-1 (79.58m) throw at the IAAF World Challenge (Aug. 31).
The IAAF Continental Cup was a competition contested Sept. 13-14, between four continents (Africa, the Americas, Asia/Pacific and Europe). Europe claimed the Cup title with a total of 447.5 points. The Americas (North America, Central America, South America and Caribbean track & field federations) finished second with 390.0 points. Africa (339.0) and Asia/Pacific (257.5) rounded out the quartet of participants.
