LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The host Rebels got wins in each of the three singles flights during the first day of action at the annual UNLV Women's Tennis Fall Invitational at the Fertitta Tennis Complex Friday.

Joining the Lady Rebels this year are competitors from Long Beach State, Northern Arizona and South Alabama.

UNLV saw a trio of players advance in singles: Santa Shumilina downed Johanna Vang of NAU 6-5, 6-5 in Flight One, Paola Artiga outlasted Livia Hollosy of NAU 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 in Flight Two, and freshman Mercedes Lopez won her collegiate debut over Sara Brown of NAU 6-2, 6-2 in Flight Three.

In doubles play, UNLV teams won two of three outings: Alexis Garrett and Anett Ferenczi-Bako got by NAU's Hailey Rochin and Brown 8-7 in Flight Two and Artiga and Lopez defeated the Lumberjack duo of Meike Vorshcel and Hollosy 8-6 in Flight Three.

Action resumes at 10 a.m. Saturday and is free and open to the public.
