LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV volleyball team (11-6 overall, 4-1 Mountain West) recorded its 13th straight victory over the Nevada, Reno Wolf Pack (7-11, 2-4 MW) at the Cox Pavilion. The Rebels have claimed the last six meetings by 3-0 scores, including Saturday's match (25-17, 25-23, 25-17).
Included in this baker's dozen run of victories, is a streak of 19 consecutive set wins that dates back to the fifth frame of a 3-2 triumph on Oct. 4, 2012.
"I liked our overall team effort today," said UNLV head coach Cindy Fredrick. "Everyone contributed for a solid win to towards points for the Governor's Series."
UNLV outhit UNR by 171 points (.239 to .068) in the affair. The Rebels threw down 12 more kills (43-31) and committed seven fewer errors (16-23) in five fewer swings (113-118), while staying within a range of .220 (second set) and .256 (first) hitting. The Wolf Pack, on the other hand, opened with a paltry -.048 effort in the first only to follow that with .171 and .086 clips in the second and third, respectively.
Besides the team's attacking, the Scarlet & Gray's blocking played a factor, as well. UNLV amassed 13.5 total team blocks to 3.0 for UNR. Ashley Owens was the main threat at the net for the Rebels with a total of eight blocks (two solo and six assisted).
Alexis Patterson was involved in all facets of the match for UNLV with a match-high 36 assists to go along with eight digs, five kills and five assisted blocks. Patterson helped Sadie Stutzman and Bree Hammel record 10 kills apiece with the former hitting .231 to the latter's .529. Additionally, Stutzman contributed four digs, while Hammel added five total blocks (one solo), one assist and one dig.
The Rebels also got nine kills from Alyssa Wing and eight more from Ceannia Kincade. Both players assisted defensively, as well. Wing chipped in eight digs and three assisted blocks, while Kincade had nine digs and three assisted blocks.
Carly Riehl paced the back row with a match-best 20 digs. Riehl also had one assist and one ace.
Statistically, UNR was led by Madison Foley (12 kills), Lyndsey Anderson (27 assists) and Madison Morell (13 digs).
UNLV hits the road for its next four matches. The Rebels will play Thursday, Oct. 15 (6:30 pm MT/5:30 pm PT) and Saturday, Oct. 17 (1:00 pm MT/12:00 pm PT) this week with trips to Fresno State and San Jose State the following week. They'll return to the Cox Pavilion on Oct. 29 (6:00 pm PT) against Utah State.
