LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - Host UNLV has four of its singles entries and both doubles teams still alive after the first round of the 2015 USTA/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Mountain Region Championships, which opened Wednesday at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.

In singles, Mercedes Lopez downed Dominique Beauvais of Weber State, 6-1, 6-0; Paola Artiga defeated Molly Crum of Montana State, 6-1, 6-0; Aiwen Zhu swept Anna Battersby of Northern Colorado, 6-0, 6-2; and Cristina Moroi advanced when her opponent defaulted.

In doubles play, Artiga teamed up with Zhu to down Mia Brandt and Elena Arnaudova of New Mexico State, 8-2; and Lopez and Moroi defeated JJ Bitton and Megan Rindlisbacher of Weber State, 8-2.

This event, which includes players from 18 western teams, is one of 24 USTA/ITA Regional Championships for NCAA Division I men and women taking place over these next two weeks of October at campuses throughout the country. The singles and doubles champions will advance to the 2015 USTA/ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships, taking place November 6-9, at the indoor facilities at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, located in Flushing, N.Y.

Thursday's action gets under way with a second round of doubles starting at 9:00 a.m. PT. The finals are set for Sunday. Admission to all matches is free of charge.
