SALT LAKE CITY (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's and women's swimming and diving teams were swept in a road dual meet on Saturday at former conference rival Utah. The men suffered a 189.5-104.5 defeat, while the women lost 120 to Utah's 179.
Despite the differences in scores, the women were able to win an impressive six events at the meet, while adding several second and third-place swims. Among those victories were Michelle Troup in the 200 free and 100 free, Elena Gavrilova in the 50 back, Lina Rathsack in the 50 breast, and Julia Fehervari in the 50 free. The women continued to shine in the 200 free relay, as the team of Fehervari, Troup, Rathsack, and Gavrilova placed first while the 'B' team of Zeineb Khalfallah, Sydney Schuette, Kelsey Wuoti and Kyndal Phillips were a close second.
"This weekend told us a lot about where we are with our training," said UNLV Interim Head Coach Bobby Folan. "Coming up here to altitude is always tough. We struggled a bit backing up from last night but we raced hard throughout the meet. We had some great individual performances but definitely have some work to do as a team.
The Rebels will be back in the pool for practices before next returning to action at the Georgia Tech Invitational in Atlanta on Nov. 19-21.
