LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's tennis team lost its Mountain West Conference opener, 5-2, to No. 45 Boise State on a hot Saturday afternoon at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.

The Rebels fell to 3-3 overall in what was their first home defeat of the season.

Boise State opened up a 1-0 lead after doubles play. The Broncos won on courts two and three to clinch it while the match at the top of the lineup was halted with the score tied at 5.

Moving to singles play, Ace Matias was the first off the courts with a 6-3, 6-1 victory at the No.1 position over Thomas Tenreiro. Boise State won the next two matches to take a 3-1 lead before Jakob Amilon got the hosts their second point with a 6-4, 6-4 triumph over Toby Mitchell on court three. The last two matches both split sets and the Broncos took both third sets to clinch it.

The Rebels close out the weekend with a non-conference match against UC Irvine Sunday starting with doubles play at 11 a.m. Admission to all UNLV home matches is free of charge.
