LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV track & field program volunteered at the inaugural Big Game 10K held in downtown Las Vegas on Super Bowl Sunday (Feb. 1). The event, which consisted of a 10K, 5K/community walk and kid's dash, raised funds for the Goodie Two Shoes Foundation, Az Hakim Foundation, Hollingsworth Elementary and Las Vegas Academy.
Az-Zahir Hakim, a former professional football player and namesake of one of the charitable organization that benefited from the race, served as the honorary host for the race. Hakim is no stranger to Las Vegas and UNLV, as the ex-wide receiver once suited up for the UFL's Las Vegas Locomotives years after playing against the Rebels for the San Diego State Aztecs in the late 90s.
Others in attendance were UNLV football head coach Tony Sanchez; four-time track & field Olympian Martha Watson; BMX rider and TV personality Ricardo Laguna; and former NFL player Tony Berti, who along with his wife, Nikki, founded the Goodie Two Shoes Foundation.
