ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV track & field team competed this weekend at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic, which was held at the Albuquerque Convention Center. MacKenna Howard and Cortney Miller paced the Rebels with their first-place finish in the shot put (49-10/15.19m) and second-place showing in the weight throw (60-10/18.54m), respectively.

Howard's victory was the second for the Rebel newcomer in as many weeks. In Flagstaff, Ariz., last week, she had a toss of 50-10 (15.49m) for top honors at the Mountain T's Invitational.

Miller's toss at the Classic was a personal best, and it was nearly one foot better than her previous mark of 59-10.5 set one year ago. She remains in fourth place in UNLV's all-time indoor performance chart.

The Rebels ran some good times in the sprints. Destiny Smith-Barnett ran a 7.43 in the 60m and a 24.46 in the 200m. Micayla Coquia also participated in both races and finished the 60m in 7.69 and the 200m in 25.66. Taylor Pegram competed in the 60m (7.85) and the 60m hurdles (7.85).

Joining Pegram in the 60m hurdles were Ke'Nya Hardge (8.74) and Joneice Ervin (8.90).

The 4x400m relay team ran a 3:42.01, which was nearly four seconds faster than the quartet that won the event at the 2014 Mountain West Indoor Championships.

Ayana Gales had a personal best in the long jump with a 19-6.75 (5.96m). She had a 37-5.75 (11.42m).

In the 800, Mirana Menzies ran a 2:18.08.

Nikki Regalado and Spencer Moore had personal bests in both the mile and 3000m, respectively. Regalado ran a 5:03.78 in the mile and a 10.00.33 in the 3000m. Moore had a time of 5:01.66 in the former event and 10:16.21 in the latter. The pair was joined by teammate Vannessa Martinez in the 3000m, as she had a time of 10:19.29 - a PB, as well.

The track & field team returns to action next week with members of the squad competing in the Husky Invitational in Seattle, Wash., and others going to Flagstaff for the Lumberjack Invitational. Both meets run from Feb. 13-14.
