LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV track & field program will host its Spring Invitational and Sheila Tarr-Smith Multis at Myron Partidge Stadium this weekend. The two-day meet begins Friday with the men's 10,000m at 10:00 am, which will be followed by portions of the men's decathlon and women's heptathlon and the hammer throw (men's followed by women's) at Sheila Tarr-Smith Field.

The majority of action will occur Saturday with 36 events between the track and field. Not included in that total are the remaining five in the men's decathlon and three more in the women's heptathlon. The day will kick off at 9:00 am with the women's shot put and the women's 5000m. The men's 4x400m relay will conclude the track slate at 3:30 pm, while the men's javelin will draw the field events to close at 4:00 pm. The meet's last event is the decathlon's 1500m at 5:00 pm.

"Our staff has worked very hard to put on a great event here on the UNLV campus," said head coach Yvonne Wade. "We are excited about the quality of competition that will take place here. The team has trained really hard to get the outdoor season started with a bang. We expect many great early season performances from the Rebels."

Participating in this weekend's meet alongside UNLV will be BYU, Cal State Fullerton, Weber State, Southern Utah, Utah Valley, Westminster, Cerritos, La Verne and Illinois (men). Besides the collegiate participants, there will be others that have exhausted their eligibility as well as world-class competitors, such as: Carmelita Jeter (three-time London Olympic medalist and three-time World Outdoor gold medalist), Gia Lewis-Smallwood (two-time USA Outdoor champion), Leslie Cole (2012 World Indoor silver medalist) and Uhunoma Osazuwa (Nigeria/2012 London Olympian).

Jeter, who is one of the fastest women in the world, will compete in the 400m this weekend and was once coached by UNLV sprint coach Larry Wade in 2007.

The Rebels hosted the Randall Cunningham Track Classic two weeks ago and saw six of their own returning student-athletes notch personal best in seven events. Overall, UNLV won 12 events.

This weekend's Invitational will be the first foray into the outdoor season for many that competed throughout the indoor campaign.

MacKenna Howard, Cortney Miller and Krystal Wharton will lead UNLV in the field events. Howard will participate in all four throwing disciplines, while Miller will be competing in her second outdoor meet with a hammer victory in the event at the Track Classic under her belt. Wharton, a 2014 NCAA Outdoor Championships qualifier, is entered in the long jump.

Monay Meggs, Laura Anuakpado, Destiny Smith-Barnett, Drea Austin, Mandy Chitwood, Auzsane Crowe-Carter and Mandy Chitwood will pace the Rebels on the track. Meggs and Anukapado will run legs of the both the 4x100m and 4x400m relays, while the former is entered in the 200m and the latter is set for the 400m. Smith-Barnett will also run in the 4x100m relay as well as the 100m and 200m. Chitwood will run the 400m and a leg of the 4x400m relay. Crowe-Carter (1500m) and Moore (5000m) will run in two distance events.

Admission to the meet is $5 for adults. UNLV students with proper I.D. and children 12 and under are free of charge.
