CLOVIS, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV track & field team registered 18 top-eight finishes at Fresno State's Bulldog Invitational Saturday. Cortney Miller was the top collegian in the hammer throw (185-2/56.44m), while five more of her teammates claimed second-place showings at the one-day meet held at Buchanan High School's Veterans Memorial Stadium.
The Scarlet & Gray got its second-place outings from Angela Ziff in the 1500 (4:42.36/personal best), Taylor Pegram in the 100m hurdles (14.07), Akia Armstrong in the long jump (18-5.25/5.62m), Kylee Vandenberg in the javelin (128-3/39.10m) and the 4x100m relay foursome (46.06) of Micayla Coquia, Monay Meggs, Pegram and Kenia Bonilla.
Bonilla, Meggs, Joniece Ervin and Armstrong partnered to run the 4x400m relay (3:51.15) for a third-place finish.
Members of the relay squads also amassed some top-eight finishes individually. Meggs was fifth (12.10) in the 100m and seventh (24.43) in the 200m. Bonilla also ran the 100m (12.10) and finished fourth. Pegram was second overall in the 100m hurdles (14.07m), while Ervin was fourth in the 400m hurdles (1:01.59).
Rebecca Hobby and Ziff took fourth (10:09.92/PB) and seventh (10:21.57/PB), respectively, in the 3000m.
Three other members of the team also ran personal bests in distance races with Rhea Hill (2:17.44) and Iris Munguia (2:18.38) in the 800m and Lindy Eskin in the 1500m (5:05.40).
Also finishing strong in the hurdles were Amari Norris (15.09) in the 100m and Juliet Summers-Hernandez (1:05.50) in the 400m.
In the field events, Vanessa Sierra took fifth in the shot put (41-4.50/12.05m) and sixth in the hammer (144-10/44.14m). Kyra Day also finished well in the hammer with a fifth-place showing (146-4/44.61m).
The Rebels return to the Golden State next weekend for the adidas/Steve Scott Invitational hosted by UC Irvine at Anteater Stadium (May 2-3).
