RENO, Nev. (UNLVRebels.com) -- UNLV baseball (12-17, 2-12 Mountain West) fell 12-1 to in-state rival Nevada, Reno (25-6, 11-3 MW) on Friday night.
The Wolf Pack scored at least one run from the second through the sixth innings and five runs in the eighth inning to clinch the weekend series over the Rebels.
UNLV's lone run came in the third inning when
Edgar Montes drew a bases loaded walk, brining in
Joey Armstrong.
Joey Lauria (2-2) took the loss in his first start of season after he allowed four runs on seven hits in 3.2 innings of work.
Zack Hartman pitched two innings in relief, where he allowed three runs on four hits and struck out three while walking one.
Corey Wilson and
Christian Myers also made relief appearances for the Rebels.
Offensively,
Joey Armstrong led UNLV, going 2-for-4 with a run scored. The only other player who recorded a hit in the game was freshman
Austin Anderson.
The Rebels and Wolf Pack will meet for the third and final game of the series on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. PT. UNR will send left-handed pitcher Cameron Rowland (3-2, 3.41 ERA) to the mound, while UNLV's starting pitcher has yet to be announced.
