RENO, Nev. (UNLVRebels.com) -- UNLV baseball (12-18, 2-13 Mountain West) fell 6-2 to in-state rival Nevada, Reno (26-6, 12-3 MW) in the series finale on Saturday.
The Rebels scored first, after plating two runs in the top of the third inning. Junior
Joey Armstrong hit his first home run of the season to left field, which brought in
Parker Hokuf.
UNR answered by scoring a run of its own in the home half of the third and tied the game in the fourth inning.
In front of their largest crowd of the season at Peccole Park, which was 1,951, the Wolf Pack took a 3-2 lead after plating a run in the sixth inning and extended its lead with two runs in the seventh and one in the eighth.
UNLV starter
Blaze Bohall (3-2) took the loss after allowing three runs on eight hits in 5.1 innings of work. He struck out three and walked one.
Ben Wright pitched 2.2 innings of relief for the Rebels and allowed three runs, two of which were earned, on three hits while striking out two.
Joey Armstrong led UNLV from the plate for the third straight day. He finished 2-for-4 with two RBI and scored a run in the game.
The Rebels will be return to Las Vegas to host nationally ranked Arizona State on Tuesday. It will be "Two Dollar Tuesday" at Earl E. Wilson Stadium and fans will enjoy $2 tickets (online only), $2 hot dogs, $2 soda and $2 off beer. The first 250 fans will also receive a free UNLV baseball mini bat.
This season at Earl E. Wilson Stadium, fans will enjoy a new and improved concession stand. Smoken Sams catering will be providing entrees that range from barbecue sandwiches, hot dogs and hamburgers to nachos, chicken fingers and fries. A variety of beverages will also be available.
