LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - Head coach Yvonne Wade represented the UNLV track & field program at Harmon Elementary Tuesday in conjunction with the UNLV Coaches Challenge, a partnership between the Southern Nevada Health District, Clark Country School District and UNLV Athletics. Wade visited Ms. Katie Sinksen's fourth grade class.
The UNLV Coaches Challenge, which began in 2007, is a four-week program that encourages elementary students to be more active and eat more fruits and vegetables. Classes compete in hopes of winning the grand prize - a classroom visit by a UNLV head coach.
This year's coaches Coaches Challenge included students from 87 elementary schools. Collectively, the participating classes earned a total of 300,719 points. That total is the most since the program began in '07. Each point equals a serving of fruit, vegetable or 15 minutes of physical activity.
