AUSTIN, Texas (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV track & field team had two of its own compete on the second day of the NCAA West Preliminary Friday. Drea Austin and Taylor Pegram participated in the 200m and 100m hurdles, respectively, at Mike A. Myers Stadium on the campus of the University of Texas.
Austin (Las Vegas/Foothills HS), who ran in the 100m prelims Thursday, finished 47th overall in the 200m with a time of 24.26.
Pegram posted a time of 14.07 to finish 48th in the 100m hurdles.
In all, the Scarlet & Gray had seven student-athletes qualify for the meet in Texas' capital city. After seeing teammates Auzsane Crowe-Carter, Joniece Ervin, Cortney Miller (Las Vegas/Calvary Chapel Christian HS), Krystal Wharton (Las Vegas/Valley HS), Austin and Pegram contend for berths to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore., next month, one more Rebel - MacKenna Howard - will have her opportunity Saturday evening.
Howard will throw in the shot put, which is scheduled to begin at 6:00 pm CT (4:00 pm PT). She enters the event seeded 29th and boasts a personal-best throw of 51-6.5 (15.71m), which, coincidentally, was notched at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays in Austin earlier this year.
