AUSTIN (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV's MacKenna Howard wrapped up the track & field team's three-day run at the NCAA West Preliminary Saturday. Howard and six other Rebels competed in a total of seven events at the regional meet hosted by the University of Texas at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
Howard finished 28th overall in the shot put behind a distance of 48-11.5 (14.92m) that was registered on her first of three attempts in the event.
Besides Howard, the Scarlet & Gray also had Drea Austin (100m and 200m), Auzsane Crowe-Carter (800m), Joniece Ervin (400m hurdles), Cortney Miller (hammer throw), Taylor Pegram (100m hurdles) and Krystal Wharton (long jump) qualify for one of two precursor meets to the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
"It's definitely disappointing to not have anyone advance to the NCAA finals in Eugene, Ore., but we have a young team and the future of Rebel track & field looks very good," said head coach Yvonne Wade. "We will continue to work hard and recruit student-athletes that will help us reach our goals."
