#CampRebel: UNLV NFL Alumni Have Perfect Week!

Aug. 17, 2015

With Monday being a much-deserved off-day for the team at #CampRebel, it's a perfect time to check in on UNLV players currently in NFL training camps. And what a week those eight Rebel alumni had as all of them, as in all eight, saw their teams win their exhibition games over the weekend.

The numbers:

Quinton Pointer (lettered at UNLV 2007-09, `11), a veteran defensive back trying to catch on with the Baltimore Ravens, posted three total tackles and had one pass defended in the Ravens' 30-27 victory over New Orleans last Thursday.

After being banged up last season, John Lotulelei (2011-12), is back playing linebacker in Jacksonville and had one tackle-for-loss in the Jaguars' 23-21 victory over Pittsburgh on Friday. Of course, John's younger brother, Tau Lotulelei, is a returning starter on UNLV's defensive unit this fall.

Offensive lineman Joe Hawley (2006-09) has been with Atlanta since being drafted by the team in 2010 and -- after suffering a season-ending injury last season -- is back as the starting center for the Falcons, who downed Tennessee 31-24 on Friday.

Rookie offensive lineman Brett Boyko (2011-14) is trying to find a home in Philadelphia and the Eagles crushed Indianapolis 36-10 on Sunday.

Kenneth Penny (2011-14) signed on with Atlanta and the first-year defensive back had one total tackle and a pass defended in the Chiefs' 34-19 win over the Cardinals on Saturday.

Another DB from last year's squad, Tajh Hasson (2011-14), had one solo tackle and two passes defended to help the Redskins down the Browns 20-17.

Josh Shirley (2014), who spent just last season in Las Vegas after transferring in from Washington, is making some noise in Oakland, including recording a quarterback sack in the Raiders' 18-3 victory over the Rams on Friday.

Finally, big Cameron Jefferson (2011-13), who earned his bachelor's degree from UNLV before spending his final year at Arkansas, is running third team at left tackle for the Chicago Bears, who downed Miami 27-10 on Thursday.
