Four different players scored for UNLV as the Rebels took care of Bradley by a 4-1 score on Sunday in the Holiday Inn Express Invitational men's soccer tournament from Clyde Field on the campus of Utah Valley.
Not only was it the Rebels' fourth straight win, moving them to 4-2 on the year, Sunday's victory marked the third straight year UNLV has scored four goals in win over the Braves, following a 4-1 win in Las Vegas in 2013 and a 4-3 road victory at Bradley in 2014. The Braves, who entered the game ranked fourth in the region, saw their record drop to 3-3. Thanks to a 2-0 record in the event following Friday's 2-0 win over Mercer, the Rebels were named the tournament champions. UNLV is also the only team in the past 20 years to score four goals on Bradley more then twice following the win.
"A great weekend for us overall," said UNLV head coach Rich Ryerson. "Not only did we have four different players score, we also had plenty of addition chances for the second straight game. We were able to play multiple players off the bench to bring an energy to the team that helped solidify the win, while Aaron Goo had an incredible individual performance at right back."
UNLV wasted little time in getting on the scoreboard, thanks to a goal by senior Corey Ackley in the 2nd minute. Danny Musovski set up the play when he led Ackley to the middle of the box with a pass, which Ackley then one-touched into the left side for the score. The lead grew to 2-0 in the 26th minute on Andy Rodriguez's first goal of the year. The senior took a pass from Kevin Partida and dribbled to the right side outside the box before sending in a blast for the goal.
The Rebels kept that two-goal margin for the majority of the game. The next goal would again be scored by a Rebel, and once again it was set up by Partida. The senior midfielder beat the backline and drove down the side, setting up a cross into the box. Musovski came charging in and headed the ball in from 10-yards out for the score in the 82nd minute.
A bid for a third straight shutout was lost in the 87th minute when Frank Bak scored off a direct kick over the wall and the hands of Rebel goalkeeper Richard Garness. UNLV finished the game with a score in the 90th minute when Bradley Kamdem took the ball from midfield, raced passed several defenders, entered the right side of the box and scored on a hard shot from 15 yards out.
UNLV finished with a 15-10 edge on shots, 9-2 on shots on goal, while corner kicks were also in favor of UNLV by an 8-5 margin. Garness finished with one save and one goal allowed for UNLV, and Bradley's Logan Ketterer was credited with four saves and four goals allowed. Four players were named to the all-tournament team: Musovski, Irvin Somera, Aaron Goo and Kamdem.
The Rebels will have a week off before returning to action on Sunday, Sept. 20, with a 6 pm contest at San Diego State.
