ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's golf team is in fourth place after two rounds at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate, which is being played at the UNM Championship Course (par 72, 7,556 yards). The Rebels shot an opening-round 2-over-par 290, then followed with a second-round 1-under 287 on Friday.
Three-time defending tournament champion and host New Mexico holds a 14-shot lead at 21-under 555 after two rounds (279-276). Colorado State and Texas Tech are the only other teams under par for the tournament and are in second and third place at 7- and 5-under, respectively. The Rebels have a 36-hole score of 1-over 577, while San Diego State rounds out the top five at 8-over. The tournament features 16 teams.
New Mexico's Andrej Bevins and San Diego's Alex Chiarella are both tied for first individually at 8-under 136 after each shooting multiple rounds of 4-under 68. New Mexico's Gustavo Morantes is one shot back in third place at 7-under, while Texas Tech's Hannes Ronneblad is fourth at 6-under.
UNLV senior AJ McInerney is in a four-way tie for fifth at 4-under. He shot two rounds of 2-under 70 on Friday. Sophomore John Oda is tied for 18th at even-par 144 (72-72), sophomore Ben Davis is tied for 27th at 2-over 146 (75-71), freshman Harry Hall is tied for 38th at 4-over 148 (73-75) and sophomore Shintaro Ban is tied for 47th at 5-over 149 (75-74). Junior Redford Bobbitt, who is playing as an individual, is tied for 63rd at 8-over 152 (76-76).
There are a total of 100 student-athletes competing.
