LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The host Rebels had a solid day of play Saturday as the second day of their Fall Invitational tennis tournament got under way. Paola Artiga and Mercedes Lopez did especially well, both advancing to the finals in singles play and as a doubles team.

"Overall, our doubles play was much better today," said UNLV assistant coach Tim Nichols. "I really liked the way we stayed aggressive. In singles we have players in two of the three finals. I thought the girls competed well and we are looking forward to Sunday."

Artiga swept Hayley Thompson of Long Beach State 7-6, 7-6 in the semifinals of singles Flight Two and will face Zalina Khairudinova of Ole Miss on Sunday for the championship. In singles Flight Three, Lopez swept Eirene Granville of Northern Arizona 6-0, 7-5 and will face Laura Eales of Long Beach State on Sunday for the championship. The duo will face Maeva Razakasoa and Georgie Sanders of Long Beach State for the doubles Flight Two championship on Sunday as well.

Another doubles team for UNLV, Aiwen Zhu and Cristina Moroi, defeated Thompson and Ebba Unden of Long Beach State in the consolation round of doubles Flight One 8-5, and will face Natalie Suk and Mai El Kamash of Ole Miss in the consolation final on Sunday.
