Jan. 30, 2016 Mountain T's Invitational: Results
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV track & field team registered 10 top-eight finishes, including a trio in both the 400m and the final of the 60m hurdles, on the second day of Northern Arizona's Mountain T's Invitational. Drea Austin (60m final), Taylor Pegram (60m hurdles final) and Laura Anuakpado (400m) led the Rebel contingent with second-place showings in their respective sports.
The day began with third- and eighth-place finishes in the weight throw by Cortney Miller and Vanessa Sierra, respectively. The former topped out with a throw of 60-2.50 (18.35m), while the latter's best was 51-9.25 (15.78).
The action then turned to the track with Austin and Micayla Coquia advancing to the 60m final following their second (7.61) and seventh (7.80) finishes in the prelims. Both ran faster times in the finale with Austin taking second in 7.58, while Coquia was seventh in 7.77.
Pegram (2nd/8.68), Joniece Ervin (3rd/8.74 PB) and Amari Norris (6th/8.91) advanced out of the 60m hurdles preliminaries to the event's final round. Pegram (8.53) and Ervin (8.72) maintained their spots in second and third, while Norris moved up to fifth behind a personal-best time of 8.85.
The Rebels were paced by Anuakpado (56.48) second-place finish in the 400m with Mandy Chitwood (fourth/57.25) and Auzsane Crowe-Carter (sixth/57.61) right behind in the top six.
UNLV continues its tour through the Southwest with a trip to Albuquerque, N.M., next weekend (Feb. 5-6) for the New Mexico Classic & Multis, which will be contested at the Albuquerque Convention Center.
